apple, far from the tree
from Britta Indorf
Since travelling to East Prussia in 2013, I have been interested in the meaning of home. I travelled to Mingstimmehlen with my mother. All that was left of her childhood was an apple tree in the field. It used to be her garden. We took an apple with us as a memento.
At the age of seven, she travelled west to Bartelsdorf in Lower Saxony (Germany), exactly 80 years ago.
Today, my mother is 87 years old and has found her sense of belonging in the community of her classmates from the trade and commercial school. And her home in the small village of Bantorf.
She passed on her feeling of „not belonging“ to me.
